Eger serves a diverse population. The centerpiece of Eger’s ministry is the eight-story, 378-bed, skilled nursing tower that includes long term and short term residents, rehab patients, some with Alzheimer’s, many with multiple sclerosis, and all who require 24-hour care. Residents vary from young to old, by length of stay, and level of care. In addition to the skilled nursing tower, Eger has a single room, 75-bed assisted living apartment house, an 8-bed hospice residence, and a log cabin that houses the adult day care program.
In addition to individual pastoral care for residents from Christian, Jewish and other faith religious traditions, the pastoral care department provides daily Roman Catholic Mass, a Sunday morning Lutheran/ecumenical worship with Holy Communion, weekly Bible Study and Prayer groups, Friday Jewish Shabbat services, memorial services, and other special gatherings.
Daily site supervision of clinical work at Eger is provided by the Director of Pastoral Care; CPE classroom work is provided by the LSNYA accredited CPE supervisor. CPE students are encouraged to participate in as much of the life and pastoral care leadership at Eger as time and agreements permit, while giving priority to the individual visits. CPE students have the opportunity to work with residents at various stages of life and physical health. Eger’s leadership and staff are uniformly supportive of pastoral care.
Eger can be reached by public transportation. From Manhattan, express bus or ferry service is available. On Staten Island, Eger can only be reached by bus or car. The approximate time from Midtown Manhattan is one hour. There are no stores of any kind within a short walking distance of Eger.
