Just used a recently for a long flight, greatly reduced the hum of the engine and air vents, when you play music you will lower the sound of screaming children to a calm muffled sound.
Overall it made my flight more pleasurable and I could escape into my sound isolation cocoon whenever I needed.
I have both the Bose and Sony IMHO Bose offers very good comfort
